Em. (Emilian) Wehrle & Comp. Trompeteruhrenfabrikation, Furtwangen, Germany. The catalogue page from the year 1866 advertises: Trompeteruhren von. E. Wehrle & Comp. Trumpeter clocks, and the leaflet from the year 1874 advertises: Uhren mit singenden Vogeln - clocks with singing birds. The industrial fabrication of musical-singing birds animated clocks, the improved design and construction of the Jacob Bauerle and sons family enterprise is largely credited to Emilian Wehrle, 1832 to 1896. Emilian Wehrle started on Jan. 1860 his workshop for turmpeter- animated bird clocks. His shop was located on the boundary of the city of Furwangen, village of Schonenbach produced trumpeter clocks of outstanding quality. The enterprise was family owned and run. Emilian Wehrle's son, Julian continued the business after Emilian retired, but changed to mech. precision parts factory. The Wehrles were very secretive, special machines and fixtures were operated by family members only. Wehrle came from a poverty-stricken farming area, but in spite of limited schooling, he proved that he was an outstanding student of extreme achievements and technically very talented. After working for several years different places as a clockmaker, virtually working day and night, he accumulated a starting capital of 1000 gold marks and registered his own shop in 1860. In 1864, he produced 160 clocks and later increased production to 190 clocks annually. Also in 1864 he obtained support from his father-in-law and purchased a building in Furtwangen on Baumannstrasses 25 (street address). His trumpeter clocks were exported worldwide, primarily to Spain, South America, Havana and a few to England.
