MICHAEL, John: John Michael, birth date unknown, died 1814, appears on the Hanover Tax rolls as a clockmaker in 1792 and 1793. By 1810 he was described as a merchant and owned Lot 70, just off Center Square on Baltimore Street, which was valued well above the town median. On the 1814 tax list, the property is charged to his widow. It is reported that he made a signed 8-day tall case clock in Chippendale style with a mood dial. His daughter married Samuel Hostetter about 1813, which may indicate that John learned the trade in the Hostetter shop.
